Valtellina is the only Alpine valley that extends from east to west. The Adda River runs through the entire valley floor, and over 70 side valleys branch off from it, creating one of the richest and most varied natural environments in Lombardy.
On the Rhaetian side are the famous dry-stone walled terraces, where the Nebbiolo delle Alpi (Alpine Nebbiolo) is grown. These terraces are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and when viewed from the river during a rafting trip, they offer a spectacular and unique view.
